Was in a race session, when the console froze.

I restarted it, and it was slower than usual.

Soon enough, it got to where it won't go past the logo boot screen.

I've tried everything I can do, but nothing works.

The console is a bit warm too, so maybe it just got a bit hot, but it's likely the hard drive.

I don't have the money to buy a replacement online, and even if I did, there's the chance I might not be able to transfer some or all of my files to a new one.

Gonna let the console rest overnight and see if it'll work again, and try clearing the cache if it does.

file structure checking tool. You run it from your PC. By plugging into your PC, you can also check physical health and see any S.M.A.R.T. errors.

The only kind of cable I have capable of that is my transfer cable, but that's for the original 360 hard drive, not the Slim one.

I think I need a cable with two USBs, which I'm not sure if I have one somewhere in the house.

The Slim drive is just a standard 2.5'' SATA drive. If you have SATA power and data available. you can pop it right out of the Xbox and plug into your PC.
